Sister Agnes Kozak

NORTH PROVIDENCE — Sister Agnes Kozak, Franciscan Missionary, daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Homer) Kozak, died September 21 at the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Assisted Living Residence.

She entered the Novitiate in Fruit Hill on December 13, 1949 and pronounced her final vows June 13, 1956. During her religious life, her ministries were in the FMM Printing press, receptionist in St. Francis Hospital, Roslyn, N.Y. and sacristan in the hospital chapel and Religious Education, sacristan and administrative assistant in The Alverne residence in St. Louis, MO.

In 1973, she was sent to Holy Family Community when the Day Care for the Elderly opened. There she taught crafts, assisted with other activities and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was missioned to San Francisco where she served as the community coordinator in St. Joseph community and St. Pius community in St. Louis. Other missionary sendings were to Natchez, Miss. where she taught crafts in a senior citizen center and to Holy Family community for collaboration with volunteers in development and fund raising. She remained creative and active doing arts and crafts, knitting sweaters for poor children, and writing poetry until her final illness.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Hoak of Cornellsville, Pa.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, Sept. 27, at the Holy Family Chapel, North Providence.
