A Big Heart for Catholic Education

This year Sacred Heart School in East Providence celebrates 100 years of Catholic Education in the community.

In honor of their centennial, the school will host an Open House on September 9, from 3 – 4 p.m., followed by Mass celebrated by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin at 5 p.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 118 Taunton Ave., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Venus de Milo Restaurant.

Principal James Woodmansee expects to welcome more than 200 people to attend these events, including alumni from as long ago as 1950.

“As a new principal, I’m often asked why Sacred Heart School is so special,” said Woodmansee. “There are many reasons why families choose to send their children to our school, for me a few things stand out: community, mission and staff. Our community is driven by a sincere spirit of loving charity to help create and maintain a school which both gives our students an excellent academic and extracurricular experience. Like all Catholic Schools we focus on developing each student’s physical, spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and emotional capabilities. Sacred Heart School truly recognizes the dignity of each person and encourages them to utilize their God-given gifts to benefit the larger community.”
