A Perfect Day for a Picnic

Posted

Sister Elizabeth Castro (standing) of the Office of Religious, the Council of Religious of the Diocese of Providence and the Columban Fathers jointly sponsored a picnic for the male and female religious of the diocese on Saturday, June 16 on the grounds of the Columban Fathers in Bristol. The event was the first of what the council is hoping will become an annual tradition. It was held this year at the Columban Fathers to celebrate their 100th anniversary as a mission society and 85 years in the Diocese. A votive Mass of Our Lady Mother of the Church in the Columban Chapel preceded the picnic. Father John Burger was the principal celebrant and homilist. Following Mass, guests proceeded out onto the grounds where the Bristol Council 379 of the Knights of Columbus grilled and served hot dogs and hamburgers and other typical picnic fare. Manny Perry of Bristol, a singer and guitarist, entertained after lunch. Some of the sisters surprised him by singing songs to his accompaniment.
