Barbara Jane (Moriarty) Andrews

COVENTRY — Barbara Jane (Moriarty) Andrews, 83, of Oak Lawn, Cranston, died Dec. 17, after battling lymphoma and numerous other health issues for several years.

She was the mother of Father Peter J. Andrews, pastor of St. Theresa and St. Christopher parishes in Tiverton,

She was the wife of 61 years to the late Frederick W. Andrews. In addition to Father Andrews, she is survived by five other sons, David R. and his wife Joanne of Cranston, Dennis F. and his wife Cheryl of Warwick, Douglas W. of Cranston, Matthew P. and his wife Keri of Sayreville, N.J. and Michael J. of Andover, N.J.; four grandsons; four granddaughters; a great-granddaughter and five great-grandsons.

Born in Warwick to the late Raymond J. and Mary C. (Dorgan) Moriarty, she was the oldest sister to her siblings Raymond Moriarty of Vero Beach, Florida, Nancy Freeman of Bowdainham, Maine and the late Eleanor Booth.

She was secretary with the Northern R.I. Cooperative Extension Service, working closely with home economic, agricultural and 4-H projects and organizations throughout Rhode Island and most of New England.

Her co-workers and associates will remember her generous spirit and willingness to bring success to whatever the task at hand required. She was a talented seamstress whose abilities could be seen clearly in the clothing, liturgical vesture, quilts and home décor that she produced for many people.

She was active for many years in the Rosary and Altar Sodality at Immaculate Conception Church in Cranston. She and her husband were avid and accomplished ballroom dancers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 21, in the Immaculate Conception Church, with burial in Woodland Cemetery in Coventry.
