Brother Raymond F. Davey

NARRAGANSETT — Christian Brother Raymond F. Davey, 85, formerly of the Christian Brothers’ Community, Narragansett, died June 12 at Briarcliffe Manor, Johnston.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frank and Hannah (Hannan) Davey. He entered the Brothers of the Christian Schools at Barrytown, N.Y. in 1939, and received the brothers’ habit in September of that year. He pronounced his final vows in 1946 in Oakdale, N.Y.

Brother Davey received a bachelor of science degree from The Catholic University of America, Washington, in 1944, a master’s degree in biology from Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y., in 1950, and a master’s degree in religious education and theology from Emmanuel College, Boston, in 1972.

He served as a teacher in schools operated by the Christian Brothers in New York and Massachusetts, and also served as a teacher in mission schools in Africa.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 16 in Our Lady, Star of the Sea Chapel, Narragansett. Burial was in the brother’s cemetery.
