Evil forces in the world must be opposed

TO THE EDITOR:

I could not disagree more with Tony Magliano on his piece “War with Iran – not a Catholic Option,” in the 16 January edition. His implying I am less Catholic than he because I would act to defend innocents from evil troubles me as well. It is very likely that President Trump’s action has saved innocent lives and protected Americans and sent a clear message that evil will be opposed.
The New King James Version says: “Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.”
At times, hopefully rare, a good Catholic has to use force. I am sure Mr. Magliano is familiar with Adolph Hitler’s Germany. The costly lesson was: Cowardice invites continued evil. Germany nearly subjugated the world. David didn’t fear Goliath — he acted to defend his people. I applaud President Trump’s action and the military that keeps America free — as well as protecting much of the world from tyrants.
