Faithful embark on a mission to evangelize in West Warwick

WEST WARWICK — St. Anthony’s Church in West Warwick was the most recent site of the Legion of Mary’s Day of Evangelization, becoming the first parish in the town to host the event. Sixty-two participants from at least fifteen different parishes gathered at the church on the morning of September 23. After sharing breakfast and praying together, the Legionaries were read a Letter of Commission from Bishop Thomas J. Tobin and then divided into teams of two to distribute flyers, rosary beads, and goodwill throughout Arctic Village.

In addition to Father Victor Silva, pastor of St. Anthony’s, two other pastors of West Warwick churches attended the event — Father Robert Giradina of SS. Peter and Paul and Father Paul Lemois of Our Lady of Good Counsel. In all, the participants knocked on nearly 700 doors, and reported that the West Warwick families they spoke with were among the most receptive yet.

The next Day of Evangelization is planned for the spring of 2018; anyone who wishes to take part, or who would like their parish to get involved, is encouraged to contact Edward Gallagher at 401-573-3630.
