Gosnell film depicts horrors of late term abortions

TO THE EDITOR:

I am numb after having recently watched “Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer.” Kermit Gosnell, the real life doctor and protagonist of the film, is a callous and reckless provider of abortions who is possessed by his own psychological demons. At the conclusion of the film he is convicted in the sadistic murder of three infants born alive, the involuntary manslaughter of a woman who is being tended to by unlicensed staff members and 21 counts of illegal late term abortions in which he delivered the breathing babies and subsequently snipped their spinal cords. The events leading to Gosnell’s conviction are but a small sampling of the overall moral depravity that marked his practice.

The events portrayed in the film are horrible to watch. What is even more horrible is the way in which our public institutions (executive and judicial governmental agencies, licensing agencies, and media) turned a blind eye towards these demonic events for many years so as not to call attention to the inherent evil embedded in the acts of abortion and infanticide. These institutions chose not to cover the trial, nor to promote the film.

Now, these same institutions want the public to turn a blind eye as they propose legislation that would essentially uphold Gosnell’s despicable work. Our society is losing its moral compass. I urge all people of faith and good will to watch this film and then write their state legislators informing them that our society cannot support such ill-conceived legislation.
