Having an abortion is not something to brag about

Posted

Oprah Winfrey has the reputation of being a compassionate philanthropist. She’s donated millions of dollars to various educational causes, and to the victims of natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, however, her charity does not include unborn children. She made that clear in the July issue of her “O” magazine by featuring activist Amelia Bonow in the “Inspiration” section.

Bonow is the founder of the “Shout Your Abortion” campaign, which urges women to brag about their abortions. Bonow’s campaign is just one part of a much larger effort by the abortion industry to convince the public that killing children in the womb is nothing to be ashamed of. Pro-abortion organizations like Planned Parenthood and NARAL have been moving away from the position that abortions should be “safe, legal and rare” to the much more troubling stance that abortions are good, empowering and beneficial to women.

Washington Times writer Cheryl Chumley brought out the incongruity of this recent philosophical shift when she wrote: “In what world should it be OK for women to shout their abortions? … Stories of abortions should never be shouted, as if congratulations are in order.” A truly compassionate philanthropist would understand this, and applaud the work of groups like “Silent No More”: groups through which post-abortive women can share their painful stories, find inner healing and witness to the sanctity of each and every human life.
