Students at Our Lady of Mercy are participating in the First Lego League Hydrodynamics Challenge. The program requires students working in teams to design and program a robot to autonomously solve missions on a 4x8 Lego-designed table and also to identify, solve and share a solution to a problem in the Human Water Cycle. Students at Our Lady of Mercy School have met with two experts who deal with the Human Water Cycle.
The first volunteer expert was David Grudzinski, of Advantage Home Inspections and Pest Control Services. He challenged the students to find solutions to reuse grey water and find methods to prevent some of the problems with disposing of water and water contamination. The next volunteer expert was East Greenwich’s own Fire Marshall Steve Hughes. Fire Marshall Hughes talked about how the fire department uses water and some of the problems they face and challenged students to come up with solutions for accessibility and communication of water sources during a fire. Our Lady of Mercy’s three teams will be creating three different solutions over the coming months in preparation for the state qualifiers if anyone else would like to volunteer their expertise in the Human Water Cycle or Programming please contact Mrs. Lukens at bea.lukens@olmschool.org.
