Rev. Michael J. Menna

PROVIDENCE — Rev. Michael J. Menna, 62, Pastor of Saint Ann Parish, Providence, died April 14, 2016.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, a son of Gilda (Caranci) Menna and the late Dante Menna, he attended Saint Bartholomew School and LaSalle Academy, both in Providence.

In preparation for the priesthood, he studied at Rhode Island College and then at Pope John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts. Most Reverend Robert E. Mulvee ordained him to the priesthood on June 26, 1999 in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence.

After ordination, Father Menna served as assistant pastor at Saints John and Paul Parish in Coventry until July 2006. From July 2006 until his death, Father Menna served as the pastor of Saint Ann Parish in Providence.

In addition to his mother, Father Menna is survived by a brother John Menna and his wife Anne of Tennessee and two sisters, Joan DeCubellis and her husband Raymond of Cranston and Maria Menna of Providence, and niece, Kristen and nephews, Dillon and Matthew.

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul was offered on April 20 in St. Ann Church, Providence with Bishop Thomas J. Tobin as the main celebrant and other priests concelebrating. Father David C. Procaccini, pastor of St. Francis de Sales, North Kingstown, was the homilist. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
