Sister Anne Pickard I.H.M.

SCRANTON, PA. — Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister Anne Pickard, formerly known as Sister M. St. Gerald, died April 6 at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

Born in Archbald, PA, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Anna G. (Kearney) Pickard. She entered the IHM congregation on Sept. 8, 1944 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1947. She professed her solemn vows on Aug. 2, 1950 and received a bachelor’s degree and a master of science degree, both in education, from Marywood College, Scranton.

Sister Pickard ministered as a teacher and religious educator. She taught at St. Thomas School, Providence, and at schools conducted by her religious community in New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania. She later served as an activities director, support staff member and prayer minister for the IHM congregation.

She is survived by a brother, Robert Pickard of Escondido, CA; and several nieces and nephews, including Sister Anne Munley IHM, of Scranton.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 11 at Our Lady of Peace Residence. Burial was in St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
