Sister Bertha Fortin

MARLBOROUGH, MASS. - St. Chretienne Sister Bertha Fortin, a retired educator, died Feb. 1 at Marlborough Hills Health Care Center. She was known in religion as Sister Omer.

Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Omer and Marie Louise (Duranleau) Fortin.

Sister Fortin ministered as a Grade 3 and 5 teacher at the former Our Lady of Consolation School, Pawtucket, 1943-58; as a Grade 4 teacher, 1972-85; and as the school librarian, 1985-88. She also ministered in Massachusetts, where she served as a principal and superior of her religious community.

Sister Fortin is survived by two sisters, Edna Bernier and Claire Cronin, both of Kingston; and many nieces and nephews, including St. Chretienne Sisters Judith and Pauline Fortin.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 5 in the chapel of the St. Chretienne Retirement Residence, Marlborough. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Marlborough.
