Sister Charles Joseph Carr

WARWICK — St. Joseph Sister Charles Joseph Carr, 94, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died March 29 at Sunny View Nursing Home.

She was a member of the religious order for 76 years.

Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Florence R. (Giles) Carr.

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from Sacred Heart Parish, Pawtucket. She was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart High School, Pawtucket, and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee, MA.

Sister Carr ministered in the Diocese of Providence at the former St. Joseph School, Newport, for 28 years and at St. Francis of Assisi School, Warwick, for 31 years. She served at St. Francis of Assisi School as a teacher’s assistant since 1994.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Father Edward J. Carr, Florence Nixon, Helen Jellis, Barbara Moulton and Charles Carr.

A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated April 2 in St. Francis of Assisi Church. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was also held later that day in Mont Marie Chapel, Holyoke, MA. Burial was in Mont Marie Cemetery, Holyoke, MA.
