Sister Germaine Barrette

MARLBORO, Mass. — Sister Germaine Barrette, 104, a Sister of St. Anne, died December 16, 2017 in Marie Esther Health Center.

Born in Pawtucket, she was the eighth child born to Ferdinand and Angeline (Dufresne) Barrette.

She earned her High School diploma from the former St. Anne Academy in this city and a Bachelor of Arts in education from the College of St. Rose, Albany, New York.

In 1933, she joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec, and pronounced vows in 1935. She was assigned to the United States and taught in elementary schools sponsored by the Sisters in St. Anne.

Her assignments brought her to Holyoke, North Adams, and Greylock in Massachusetts; in Cohoes, New York; in Manville, and Central Falls in Rhode Island; and in Springvale, Maine.

After almost 40 years of teaching, Sister Germaine was assigned to St. Anne Convent in Marlboro where for many years she was in charge of transportation services and offered other community services.

She was predeceased by thirteen brothers and sisters and leaves to grieve her brother Joseph Barrette, her brother in law George Beaucage, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, other extended family and her Sisters of St. Anne family.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place on December 19, 2017, at St. Anne Convent, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlboro.
