Sister M. Ina Kenney

SCRANTON, PA. — Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister M. Ina Kenney, 97, died March 3 at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Francis Louis and Anne Alphonse Carey Kenney. She entered the IHM congregation on Sept. 24, 1928 and made her temporary profession of vows on April 14, 1931 and her final profession on Aug. 1. 1934.

Sister Kenney received a bachelor of music degree from Marywood College, Scranton and a master of music education degree from DePaul University, Chicago.

She ministered as a music and art teacher in Catholic schools in Pennsylvania, Idaho, Maryland, North Carolina and New York. In the Diocese of Providence, she taught at St. Paul School, Cranston from 1932 to 1941.

For 20 years, Sister Kenney served on the music department faculty of Marywood College teaching music during summer sessions. She was a music and occupational therapist at the Marian Convent in Scranton from 1981 to 2004. From 2004 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She is survived by a brother, Edward C. Kenney and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Francis L. Kenney.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 7 in the chapel of Our Lady of Peace Residence. Burial was in St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
