Top spellers showcased at St. Margaret

Saint Margaret School, Rumford, student Penelope Sargeant, grade 8, took home the prize of top speller in the Rhode Island State Spelling Bee at Lincoln Middle School. After multiple rounds with the final three spellers, Sargeant correctly spelled “telegnosis” and “interpellate.” She will represent Rhode Island at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. this spring. In December 2022, Saint Margaret School participated in the Diocesan Spelling Bee. Representing the school were Sargeant and Eleanor McGane, grade 6, pictured at left.
