The 2017 V Encuentro process that is taking place all around the country has been instrumental in helping form a stronger community among Hispanics at Holy Ghost Church in Providence said Father Jorge Carmona, assistant pastor. On Sunday April 30, more than 110 people gathered to celebrate Mass, and met for 6 hours in a “Parish Encuentro” culminating five weeks of gatherings in smaller groups of seven to 12 people which took place at church and homes. During the Encuentro, participants engaged in two presentations discussing how to become missionary disciples and parish evangelization. After each presentation there were small group discussions. At the end of the day, participants finished with an hour of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament with Father Francesco Francese, pastor. Holy Ghost Church was the first parish to finish the Encuentro Process. Five more parishes are began the process last weekend and others will begin in June. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will preside over Mass for the Diocesan Encuentro on October 28 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Providence. Next year there will be a regional gathering in Boston and a national Encuentro in Grapevine, Texas.
