This past week has been a sad reminder of gun violence in America, where a young man named Nikolas Cruz entered a school and opened fire upon students and teachers. The 19-year-old is accused of killing 17 and leaving more than a dozen injured at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, a small city about 50 miles north of Miami. Adopted at birth by a loving older couple, Nikolas seemed to struggle in recent years. His dad died when he was much younger and the 19-year-old’s mom died just three-and-a-half months ago. Cruz was finally apprehended and arrested at a nearby house very shortly after the shootings. The AR-15 used in the mass shooting was legally bought by Cruz. Cruz had already owned the gun when he moved in with his friend’s family and was seen brandishing a gun on social media. The FBI was tipped off about a YouTube comment from someone using the name “nikolas cruz” who said they were going to “be a professional school shooter” in September — five months before a man with same name allegedly opened fire on pupils in Florida.
The media doesn’t help and even uses this horrific event to promote abortion as was reported by journalist Becky Griffin’s tweets about abortion and the mass shooting. She tweeted, “Woman puts baby up for adoption, he grows up to be a violent young man who will spend the rest of his life in prison for a mass murder. Tell me more about how abortions are wrong.” Not only does the mainstream media have a bias in favor of the pro-abortion position, its own position is that abortion as a good thing.
Members of the mainstream media should look into why young people use violence as a means of acting out. All one has to do is watch television, movies, play video games and listen to modern music and you will find a non-stop litany of violence, sex and murder that seems to be glorified. Much of the viewing and listening audience have become numb to the impact of these acts. Stricter gun laws will not change the violent outbursts of certain people, but only a change in what is considered ‘entertainment.’ This also includes a deeper respect for the dignity of all human life, especially ending the violent act of abortion.
